Fudge Main Ingredients

Sunflower Seeds

Sunflower Seeds (sunflower butter) are rich in healthy fats, antioxidants, hormone balancing components and protein

Sunflower seeds are high in selenium, a trace mineral that is essential for liver detoxification and aids in hormone regulation.

They are also high in other minerals and vitamins, including vitamin E, zinc, B’s, magnesium, manganese and copper. The amount of vitamin E is significant which aides in anti-inflammatory effects.

They are a healthy source of essential fatty acids; especially rich in poly-unsaturated fatty acid linoleic acid. They are also good in mono-unsaturated oleic acid that helps lower LDL or “bad cholesterol” and increases HDL or “good-cholesterol” in the blood.

Dates

Dates (date paste) are high in nutrients and minerals and is low on the glycemic index **

Dates are high in potassium. Do you experience cramps in your legs at night? If so, add in foods with potassium. They are also a good source of soluble and insoluble fiber and protein. They also have minerals such as magnesium, selenium, zinc and vitamin C,

In addition to a high mineral content, particularly iron which is beneficial for anemia, they are high in insoluble and soluble fiber which is essential for bowel wellness,

They aid in blood sugar regulation being a low glycemic food (glycemic index measures how much a food will spike blood glucose); this fruit supports the nervous system, digestion and is immune boosting.

Maple Syrup

Maple Syrup is an all-natural sweetener that is energy boosting, with antioxidant, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties

The minerals in maple syrup are robust with zinc, manganese, calcium, potassium, iron and magnesium,

It’s also low on the glycemic index **and eliminates the concerns processed sugar creates for the digestive tract such as; candida, IBD, leaky gut, SIBO, and is free from chemicals (if organic),

Pure maple syrup is high in antioxidants, in the form of phenolic compounds. These compounds are beneficial for reducing free radical damage that can cause inflammation.

Himalayan Sea Salt

Himalayan Sea Salt has the all-natural minerals our body requires

Himalayan Sea Salt contains at least 84 minerals in their natural form. In addition to sodium, its high in iron, magnesium, phosphorus, calcium, potassium and chloride. Sodium (in its natural form) helps to regulate blood pressure, muscle contractions, nerve transmissions and heart functions,

Regular table salt, used in restaurants, mostly contains sodium chloride (97%) which is chemically produced, bleached and deficient of most other nutrients. It also contains aluminum which has been linked to Alzheimer’s disease,

Himalayan Pink Salt is pure and free from toxins or pollutants.

Dark Chocolate

Dark Chocolate (unsweetened chocolate and cocoa) has antioxidants, healthy fats and minerals

Dark Chocolate is loaded with biologically active compounds that function as antioxidants, even containing similar amounts of antioxidants as red wine and the similar amounts of anti-cancer properties as green tea!

Containing fiber, iron, magnesium, copper, manganese and also has potassium, phosphorus, zinc and selenium,

It also contains caffeine and theobromine. Theobromine has diuretic, stimulant and relaxing effects, therefore it can relax bronchi muscles in the lungs and is used as a cough medicine. Caffeine and theobromine are key reasons chocolate can improve brain function in the short term,

In addition, it contains cocoa butter which is stearic acid. The liver converts stearic acid to a healthy monounsaturated fat called oleic acid. Oleic acid actually lowers levels of bad (LDL) cholesterol and boosts levels of good (HDL),

Always choose organic chocolate. Non-organic has over 30 pesticides in it which interferes the health benefits

**Why is the glycemic index important? Refined sugar (and carbohydrates) quickly spikes blood sugar and raises insulin levels. Continuous spikes of blood sugar can lead to lower insulin response and blood glucose imbalanced. This can lead to the development of diabetes or hypoglycemia, cravings, overeating and weight loss resistance.
